Construction of this 4.4 MGD Conventional Water Treatment Plant required major modifications to the facilities existing intake process. After demolition of the existing influent pump station, a new facility was constructed around the existing intake caisson, all while maintaining raw water pumping operations. A new raw water line into the Missouri River with associated marine work was required to bring water capacity to the new water treatment plant. The new facility included construction of two clarifiers with zones for rapid mix, flocculation, sedimentation, three dual cell gravity filters, and a one million-gallon Clearwell.

The rolling hills of South Dakota made a scenic drive to the job site, but the remote location of the project made for unique challenges when ordering materials and scheduling concrete pours. The aggressive project schedule demanded the concrete placements be completed through the winter months. With the nearest ready-mix plant being 90 miles away, careful planning and utilizing unique mix designs were required.
