Bismarck, ND
Horizontal Collector Well – Phase III Pump House
In 2011, PKG was awarded the third
and final phase of intake improvements for the City of Bismarck. The project
included construction of an above-grade superstructure, housing a 30MDG pumping
system. Project parameters required the building to be susceptible to flooding
and ice damage due to its proximity to the river. The building was designed to
complement the surrounding river system. The operations floor,
designed in the shape of an ellipse, was poured in a single monolithic
placement including the concrete haunches. The building
is much larger than it appears with a three-story configuration of caisson wet
well above the 500-year flood level, pump room, and upper electrical
system.
